Just tried a new way to mix a toner and it worked way better than I thought
I was doing a color correction on a client with old box dye, and instead of my usual 1:2 mix, I went with a 1:1.5 ratio of 7N with a dash of 7V. The lift and tone came out perfectly even in one go, which never happens for me on these cases. Has anyone else had luck tweaking developer ratios for stubborn color?

Nice! So when you bumped up the color ratio, did you notice it deposit more tone than expected, or was the extra developer enough to keep it balanced?

Honestly, that's a solid tweak. I've had to do something similar with a 6A before, bumping up the color to developer just a bit. Those old dyes can be such a pain to lift evenly. Makes you wonder why the standard ratios don't always cut it, right?

Totally agree, those standard ratios are more like a starting point. They don't account for how much old color is built up on the hair. A 6A on one head is not the same as a 6A on another. It's all about the canvas you're working on. You have to adjust on the fly based on what you see, not just what the bottle says. Makes the job more of an art than a science sometimes.
