A new diver in Seattle asked me why I still carry a brass spanner wrench

We were on the dock after a bridge inspection job, and he saw it in my kit. I told him it was from my first dive boss 15 years ago, who said 'tools with a story don't sink.' He just nodded and said he gets it now, that some gear holds more than torque. Made me think about all the little things we pass down in this job. What's one piece of old gear you still keep in your bag?

Ever wonder if the gear we keep is more about the person we were when we got it? I still have this beat up dive light from my first night dive, the switch is sticky but it reminds me to stay calm in the dark.

My buddy still wears his ripped wetsuit from his first big surf.
