I think the push for fancy tool presetters is overblown

Last month, our shop in Dayton bought a high-end presetter for about twelve grand. Everyone said it would cut setup time in half. For a week, I was slower than ever, fighting the software and double-checking its numbers against my old height gage. It finally messed up a Z-offset on a titanium part, costing us material and a day. Does anyone else just trust their own touch and simple tools more?

Ever think it's a training issue, not a tool issue?

Ugh, this reminds me of my old boss who bought a super expensive coffee machine but never showed anyone how to clean it. We just had a fancy paperweight for months.
