Tried a power stretcher on stairs, ended up with a waterfall of wrinkles

Last week I had a split level job in Collinsville and decided to use a power stretcher on the bottom steps instead of my usual knee kicker. Big mistake. The carpet puckered so bad it looked like an accordion from the landing down. Took me nearly 3 hours to redo everything with the knee kicker and a fresh seam. Anyone else ever mess up stairs by overthinking the tool choice, or is it just me?
