Shoutout to the seam roller I almost threw away
I've been installing carpet for about 8 years now, mostly residential stuff around Columbus. A few months back I was doing this big living room with a really tight pattern match, and my old seam roller just wasn't cutting it anymore. The handle was loose and the wheel had this wobble to it that made the seams look sloppy. I was about to toss it in the trash and grab a new one from the supply house. But then I remembered I had this older, heavier seam roller my uncle gave me years ago that I never used because it felt too clunky. Dug it out of the bottom of my van, cleaned it up, and man what a difference. That solid steel frame and the wider wheel pressed those seams down flat and even on the first pass. No more going back over spots or fighting with wavy lines. Has anyone else had an old tool that sat around forever and then turned out to be way better than what you were using?

Dug out a putty knife I had been ignoring for like five years because it was too rusty looking. Turns out the rust actually gave it the perfect edge grip and now my drywall patches are smoother than ever. Guess I should throw away more stuff to find the real gems hiding under the junk. Or maybe I just need to clean out my truck more often. Who knew neglect was the secret to tool greatness.

Found the same thing with an old heat gun I had buried in my toolbox for years. This newer one I was using kept tripping the breaker but that old clunker just works every time no fuss. It's funny how the stuff we almost get rid of ends up being the best.
