Saw a huge difference in seam strength after switching to a new hot melt tape

I had a job about two months ago where the client called back after just six weeks because a seam was coming apart. I'd used the same standard tape for years. This time, I tried a different brand of hot melt tape, the kind you need a special iron for. The change was clear. The seam I put down with the new tape in a busy hallway is still perfect, while the old one failed fast. Has anyone else made a switch like this and seen a real jump in how long the seams hold?

Ever have that moment where you realize you've been doing something the hard way for no reason? I was using this old iron for years that just didn't get hot enough... seams would look okay for a month then just let go. Switched to a better iron with the right tape and it was like night and day. The stuff in my own entryway has taken a beating from my dogs and still looks new. Makes you wonder what else we're all using that's just... not quite right.

Yeah, it's funny how we just stick with what we know... @rubyw70 mentioning their old iron made me realize I was doing the same thing with my old roller. Switched to a heavier one for better pressure and the bond is totally different now. Sometimes the tool is half the battle.
