I finally had to choose between a seam roller and a knee kicker for a tricky berber seam in a Denver split-level last week.
I went with the knee kicker for extra tension control and it worked, but I'm curious if anyone has a better method for those tight, angled seams on stairs?

My old boss swore by a hot seam iron on tricky berber stair seams.

My first boss in Albuquerque made us use a 5-inch putty knife to tuck and fold berber on winders. It was brutal on the thumbs. Jason562 mentioning a hot seam iron makes me wonder if that would have melted the nylon fibers on that old stuff we were installing. Sometimes the old school hand tools just give you that weird feel you need on a tight turn. What did your helper do while you were working that seam?
