Had to choose between a big seam or recutting a whole room

Last Friday in a two-story house in Tacoma, I had a roll that was just 2 feet short of covering the main bedroom wall to wall. The homeowner was already stressed about the move. I had two bad choices: make a huge seam right down the middle of the room, or recut everything from the hallway carpet to avoid it. I went with the seam, thinking I could make it invisible with enough heat and stretch. Wrong. The pattern was a tight loop and the light hits it just right, so now there's a faint line you can see from the doorway. The client hasn't said anything yet, but I see it every time I walk past. Has anyone else had a seam fail on a patterned carpet even with perfect technique?

Patterns always find a way to betray you.

Spot on, @dakotaellis. You start to trust a pattern and that's exactly when it breaks.

Dakota nailed it man, patterns are like that one friend who seems cool until they leave you hanging at the worst possible moment. I swear a loop pile pattern knows exactly when you're out of waste and decides to shift a quarter inch.
