I did a general resume workshop versus a targeted one for my field
Last month, I went to a free resume workshop at the local library. It was okay, but it was super general advice for everyone. Then my friend, who's a project manager, told me to try a targeted one for tech folks. I did a 2-hour online one last week that was just for people in software. The difference was huge. The targeted one showed me exactly how to list my Python projects and use the right words that hiring managers in my field look for. Has anyone else found that a niche workshop was way better than a general one?

Oh totally. I went to a general career fair once and it was useless. Then I did a small one just for writers and it was like, oh, these people actually get it.

Yeah, that makes perfect sense. General fairs are a total shot in the dark. When it's focused, you're not wasting time explaining the basics of the whole field. Everyone starts on the same page, so you can actually talk about the real work. It just cuts through all the noise.
