Stuck between a flip house in NoDa or a fixer upper in Plaza Midwood

Oh yeah, been there. Picked the cheaper house thinking I was being smart and now I'm living in a construction zone with no end in sight.

Can we talk about the big debate on painting over wallpaper?

Painted over wallpaper in my old kitchen two years ago. Did the prep work right with primer and all that but yeah, the seams started peeling up around month eight. Looked decent for a while but now I'm kicking myself for not just ripping it down first time.

Customer called me out on dirty chain lube overspray

It's funny how people get hung up on little stuff like that. In my experience, the older a customer gets, the more they seem to focus on a clean bike over a quiet one. I've seen guys spend twenty minutes wiping down a frame but skip regular chain maintenance, then wonder why their drivetrain wears out in a season. That overspray is just a sign the job got done, like a little patina on a truck that's actually been used for work. Take it from someone who's been turning wrenches for a while, a chainstay with some lube marks is a happy chainstay. People just need to pick a priority and stick with it, you can't have a silent, spotless bike that also shifts like butter.

Just realized nobody teaches stair wrapping properly anymore

Funny you mention that, because I did a job last year where I just went ahead and wrapped the risers even though the customer didn't ask for it. The old way takes maybe 15 extra minutes per stair, and I figured it's worth my peace of mind. Ended up saving a callback on a set of stairs that had a weird angle, those tight cuts would have definitely popped out within a month. Customer noticed the extra work and actually complimented it, so that's a win-win in my book. Sometimes doing it the old school way just saves headaches down the road.
