Bombed a client presentation in Seattle last month over a dumb slide typo

I was pitching a marketing plan to a retail chain and my main slide had "recieve" instead of "receive" right in the headline. The client pointed it out in front of 10 people and I just laughed it off, but I lost the contract worth about $15k. Has anyone else had a small mistake cost them big like that?

That typo was brutal but honestly the real mistake was not having a second pair of eyes on the deck before presenting. A quick proofread by a coworker or even running it through a spellcheck tool could have caught it. Those $15k lessons stink, but they definitely force you to build better habits.

Ugh, that's a rough one (and an expensive one too). It's that awful sinking feeling when you realize it's too late, you know? I really feel for anyone who's been through that, because we've all had a moment where a small mistake turned into a big problem. But you're totally right, those $15k lessons are like a brand you don't forget. They force you to slow down and actually build in a real review step, even if it feels annoying at the time. Hopefully that one painful mistake saves you from making it ever again.
