I used to pack my tent wet until a guy in Bend called it a 'mold farm'

I was rushing to leave a site after a rainy night and just shoved my damp tent in the car bag. A guy at the next spot saw me and said, 'You're building a mold farm for next time.' That stuck with me. Now I always hang it in my garage for a day, even if it's just a little damp. Anyone else have a small habit they changed after a blunt comment?

That mold farm line would stick with me too. Honestly used to do the same thing with my sleeping bag after a sweaty night. Somebody saw me roll it up damp and just said "that's gonna stink forever." Now I drape it over a chair first, every single time. Those blunt comments really do get in your head.

Why do we only learn from the harsh truth?

Yeah, I read a whole article about gear care that basically said what @nora86 mentioned, that mildew smell never really comes out once it sets in.

Been there with a tent I packed away damp after a rainy trip. The smell was a lost cause, but it taught me to always dry things fully, even if it takes an extra day in the garage. Sunlight and fresh air are your best friends for prevention. Once that musty odor sets in, it's more of a reminder than a problem you can fix.
