That old timer who told me to stop using wire brushes on clay flues

Honestly, it stings when you realize someone tried to warn you and you brushed it off. Ngl, @garcia.charles, that liner story is exactly the kind of thing that keeps me up at night now. Tbh, Charlie's advice saved my reputation more than I'll ever admit.

Old timer at a parts counter in Detroit told me I was overthinking a simple fridge fix

Wait, he kicked the side panel and that was it? That's insane. I would've been so mad watching that guy walk away with 20 bucks for basically a kick and a 5 minute fix.

Appreciation post: my old boss in Tacoma showed me a taping trick three years ago I still use every day.

Wait, you put the mud on before you bed the tape? That's wild. I've been doing this for years and I always bed it first, then coat it. Honestly that sounds backwards but if it kills the bubbles I guess it works. Gonna have to try that on the next long seam.

My chimney camera cable snapped halfway through an inspection

My old man was a phone installer back in the 90s and had this whole spiel about tensile strength versus flexibility. He'd say you can yank a garden hose all day, but fold it sharp once and it's toast. That's the kink problem the_wren is talking about. Makes me wonder if hannahs71 is coming from a data center background where straight pulls are more common. I've seen both fail in the real world, honestly.

My sister told me to skip the last chapter of our book club pick and I'm glad I did

Skip the last chapter of a book and you didn't really read it.
