Yeah but matthew_baker, it gets tricky when the ground changes. Sand at the beach needs totally different stakes than rocky soil. I watched a guy try to use those basic aluminum stakes in loose dirt and his whole tent just slid downhill overnight. The type of stake matters as much as the angle you put it in.

Anchoring tents (seriously?) can't be that complicated.

Come on, it can totally mess up your whole trip if you do it wrong. I've seen stakes pull out in light rain and watched a tent collapse from wind because the angles were off. It's one of those things that seems easy until you're actually dealing with bad weather.
