I used to shrug off ads like this and figure people just need to lighten up, it's only a joke. Then a few months back I was at a laundromat in a rough spot myself, doing sheets at 11pm because my kid got sick, and I saw something kind of like this. It stopped feeling funny real fast and started feeling like someone read my bad week out loud and put a coupon on it. The thing is, the ad is not wrong about why people are there, and it does hit the right crowd at the right time. But there is a difference between being clever with a spot and poking at somebody's worst day for a sale. Now I lean toward sneaky, not clever, because the laugh comes at the customer's cost.

I swore the freezer thing was an old wives tale for years. Then a buddy who runs a small data rescue gig out in Nampa pulled a full 1TB Seagate image after a 12 hour freeze, drive was clicking like crazy before that. He wraps his in two ziplock bags and squeezes the air out so no moisture gets in, then works fast once it's out because you only get maybe 20 or 30 minutes before it heats back up and dies again. I watched him do it and the drive spun clean the whole time, which I did not expect at all. Now I keep a couple of dead ones in my own freezer just in case. It doesn't always work, but 40 percent sounds about right to me.
