Lost $60 on a flex cable I should have just made myself
I tried to order a replacement flex cable for a Canon AE-1 Program shutter from a seller in Ohio. The part got stuck in shipping for 3 weeks and when it finally showed up, the connector was cracked. I could have just cut and soldered a new one from bulk ribbon cable for about $4. Has anyone else had better luck sourcing these things locally?

Man, that sucks! I've done the exact same thing - waited forever for a part that shows up broken and you could've just made it yourself for pocket change. I swear, the universe has a special sense of humor when it comes to camera repairs. My personal record is waiting 6 weeks for a capacitor that arrived with a dent in it. At least you can laugh about it now, right? Plus, now you know how to make your own, which is always a win in this hobby. Just don't beat yourself up too much, we've all been there.

Six weeks for a dented capacitor is rough but you can't act like the universe is personally out to get you every time a package shows up messed up lol. Shipping stuff gets wrecked all the time, it's more about bad luck than some cosmic joke on camera nerds. At least you got a funny story out of it and a new skill, so it's not like you're out anything major.
