PSA: A chat with my plumber neighbor changed how I see wall fishing
We were talking about tight spaces in old houses (mine's from 1928) and he said, 'You guys have it easy, at least your cable bends.' He showed me his flexible drain snake and it clicked. I've been fighting with fish sticks for years when a cheap plumbing tool might get around corners better. Has anyone tried using a drain auger for tricky cable runs behind plaster?

My 1910 bungalow has plaster walls that eat fish sticks for breakfast. I actually bought a cheap harbor freight drain snake last year for a bathroom reno and it worked way better than my actual cable tools. The plumber is low key a genius for that cross over hack.

Honestly I used to think you needed the fancy tools for plaster, but that harbor freight snake trick is a game changer. Good call explaining the fish sticks thing to @harpergonzalez too, old houses are just built different!
