Hit 50 years as a butcher last Tuesday and I still won't use a bandsaw for breaking down primals.

Everyone in the shop swears by them for speed, but after losing a fingertip to one in '83, I'll take my splitting maul and hand saw any day over a machine that can take your whole hand off before you blink.

Blew up my grandpa's table saw in '95 trying to cut through a frozen deer leg bone for a camp stew. Took me three hours with a hatchet to finish the job, but I slept better knowing that saw wasn't gonna bite me again. Hand tools might be slower, but they don't have a grudge against your fingers.

Hah, @felix385 that story is legendary! I once tried to use a jigsaw on a half-frozen turkey for christmas dinner and the blade snapped so hard it flew across the kitchen and stuck in the drywall. Power tools just have a way of reminding you who’s boss, even when you’re just trying to make soup.
