That flyer for 'free koi pond plants' I laughed at turned out to be legit
There was this tattered neon green flyer on the laundromat board by my shop in Santa Fe, offering free aquatic plants for a 'pond thinning', and I figured it was a scam or a guy just trying to dump duckweed. I showed up at his address and the guy literally handed me three 5-gallon buckets of healthy water lilies and floaters, no strings attached. Has anyone else actually gotten something good off a random bulletin board that looked too sketchy to believe?

Oh that is SO something I would do, like I walk past those bulletin boards all the time and normally just roll my eyes. But you got water lilies AND floaters for free? That's basically a whole pond setup right there. I have a friend who tried to buy aquatic plants once and it was like 40 bucks for a tiny pot of something that died in a week. So yeah I totally believe you got a score because sometimes people just want to get rid of stuff fast and don't care about making money. I bet that guy was just doing a favor for his own pond and needed the plants gone before they took over everything. It makes me wonder how many other random flyers are actually legit but we just ignore them because they look like trash.
