That community board flyer about free piano lessons turned out to be a scam
Saw a bright yellow flyer on the board at the grocery store last month, promised 4 free lessons from a 'certified instructor' named Mark. I was skeptical but figured why not try it, showed up at the address and it was just a guy trying to sell me some expensive online course package for $200. The flyer had a local phone number and everything but the address was a rented office that didn't even have a piano in it. Honestly felt dumb for driving 20 minutes across town but now I'm way more careful about what I actually respond to. Has anyone else fallen for those too-good-to-be-true flyers on bulletin boards?

20 minutes across town to look at an empty room, that's rough but I wonder if you really lost that much besides some gas money. Those flyers pop up everywhere and 99 percent of them are just someone trying to sell something. At least you didn't hand over $200 on the spot.

Had a buddy fall for something similar a few years back. He drove an hour each way to check out a "storage unit full of antiques" some old lady was selling on Craigslist. Got there and it was just a dusty mattress and a broken lamp. The lady tried to sell him a "rare coin collection" she had in her pocket instead. He was so mad he just left without saying anything. Spent two hours driving and ten bucks in gas for a lousy mattress... People are shameless with these listings sometimes.
