Rant: That 'easy money' flyer on the library board cost me $75

I saw this bright pink flyer at the downtown library last month, right by the community room door. It said 'Make $500 a week from home! No experience needed!' and had a phone number. I called, and this guy said I needed to pay a $75 'starter kit fee' for materials. He promised I'd get it back after my first 'project'. I sent the money through an app, and he just stopped answering. The number is dead now. I feel so dumb for falling for it, but the flyer looked so official next to the knitting club and lost pet signs. Has anyone else seen these sketchy job flyers around town lately? What do you even do about it?

Ugh, that's the worst feeling. Did you try calling your bank or the app you used to send the money? When something like this happened to me with a fake ticket sale, I called my credit card company right away. I told them it was a scam and they did a chargeback for me. It took a couple weeks but I got the money back. They have fraud protection for this exact reason. It's worth a shot, especially since it just happened.

Did you report it to the library staff? I used to ignore those flyers thinking only truly desperate people would fall for them, but seeing how they're placed right next to legit stuff makes it a whole different problem. It's not about being dumb, it's about them making it look like part of the normal community board. Now I pull them down whenever I see one.
