My aunt told me I was wasting money on name-brand groceries, but I argued back with my receipts

She said switching to store brands would save me $50 a month, but after tracking for 2 months I found I only saved $12 because the generics went bad faster. Has anyone else tested this and found the savings aren't as big as people claim?

Used to be all about the generic life, thought name brands were a total scam honestly. But then I bought store brand lunch meat and it got slimy like 3 days earlier than the usual one I get. Your math actually makes a lot of sense, when you factor in that wasted food cost it probably evens out way more than people wanna admit. Sometimes I feel like the generic foods just have more water or cheaper fillers that make em spoil faster too.

My sister bought generic cereal last week and it went stale before she even finished the box, name brand stays crunchy way longer. I think there's this whole hidden economy of stuff that just spoils faster or has more air in the package to make it feel like you're getting more. Definitely seen the same thing with store brand chips being mostly crushed at the bottom of the bag compared to the name brand ones. Idk, maybe it's just me but I've started keeping a little mental list of which generics actually hold up and which ones are just false economy.
