I thought the cash envelope system was a joke for broke people
My wife wanted to try it last January, and I laughed. Carrying around paper money for gas and food in 2024? It felt dumb. We set a hard $400 limit for groceries each month, split into four envelopes. The first week, I had to put back a fancy steak because my $100 envelope was empty. That physical limit changed everything. We stopped the mindless extra trips to the store and actually planned meals. After six months, we saved over $2,000 that just vanished before. Who else has tried something that seemed old-fashioned but actually worked for them?

Lol you got roasted by a piece of paper. My grandma was right about everything.

Honestly thought the envelope thing was for people who couldn't handle a debit card. Then my own grocery envelope called me poor last Tuesday. Like @jason_fisher4 said, our grandmas were onto something. That physical limit makes you actually see the money leaving, which stopped my random snack runs cold. Saved about fifty bucks last month just on impulse buys I didn't even notice before.
