A random chat with my barber about his side hustle changed how I track cash

He told me he puts every coffee and drive-thru run in a notes app, $4 here and $9 there, and at the end of March he had $212 that just vanished. Why do we pretend small leaks don't count when they add up to a whole mortgage payment by the year? Anyone else ever add up their 'little stuff' and get surprised at the total?

And it's the same with just about everything, once you actually look at where the time and money go, the little stuff is always the biggest chunk. That $5 here and $7 there is the quiet killer of budgets, I never see it coming until I total it up and go "oh".

Respectfully, I see it the opposite way. The big stuff like rent, car payments, and insurance takes such a huge bite that the little stuff barely moves the needle for me. Tracking my $4 coffee does nothing when my mortgage eats half my paycheck.
