Spent $60 on a hostel card game night and met someone who split a taxi to the airport with me

Turned out paying for that random event at a hostel in Prague saved me like $40 on the ride back and I still talk to the guy sometimes, has anyone else found cheap social stuff that actually paid off?

Wait did you end up splitting that $40 with the person you met or did you just save on your own ride? I had something similar happen in Barcelona last year where I joined a free walking tour that ended at a bar, and I ended up meeting a guy who was heading to the same festival I was going to the next day. We shared a cab from the bar to the venue and even swapped tips on which sets to catch. That $3 tip I gave the tour guide basically paid back ten times over in saved taxi fare and good advice. It's wild how those random decisions to just say yes to cheap stuff can lead to actual savings and sometimes a decent travel buddy.
