Heard my niece call her new plant a 'green friend' and it took me back

I was helping her pot a little pothos last weekend and she said that, which made me think about how we used to just call them 'houseplants' when I was a kid. It feels like now people really see them as pals, not just decor, which is kind of nice. Do you think talking about plants this way makes new folks more likely to try growing things?

My cousin named her fiddle leaf fig "Frank" and talks to it while she waters it. She used to kill every plant she touched, but she says treating Frank like a buddy makes her pay more attention to its needs. It's been alive for almost two years now, which is a record for her. I do wonder if that personal connection makes the care feel less like a chore. It turns a task into part of your daily routine, like checking in on a friend. Maybe that's the trick for getting people to stick with it.

Call Frank a therapy plant with better listening skills than most people. Your cousin basically tricked herself into being a good plant parent by making it social. The real miracle is that she hasn't started asking Frank for advice yet.
