Chat with a retired binder in Portland flipped my view on old techniques
I was talking to this guy named Gene at the Powell's book fair a few weeks ago. He said something like 'we overthink spine rounding now, just let the paper tell you where it wants to go.' It hit different because he had 40 years of experience and my modern tools don't make up for that feel. Anyone else had an old school binder drop a line that stuck with you?

Wait, did Gene have a giant mustache and wear suspenders too?

Omg YES to the giant mustache and suspenders! @the_karen I swear I met a guy at a craft fair last year who looked EXACTLY like that and kept calling himself "just a simple handyman." He even had the same kind of flannel shirt and this old-timey pocket watch. It's like they all come from the same secret handyman factory or something.
