Found a notebook in a library book with a recipe for 'invisible ink'

I mean, it was just a regular composition book tucked in a cookbook at the local branch. The page said to mix lemon juice with a little water and write with a toothpick, then heat the paper to reveal it. I tried it on some printer paper and held it over my stove. Instead of neat writing, the whole sheet just turned a gross brown and curled up. Maybe my heat was too high? Has anyone else actually gotten one of these old tricks to work without ruining the paper?

A homeowner told me my wire runs were too obvious and it stuck with me

I did a job in a nice old house in Portland last month, and the owner pointed out how my white wire stood out against the dark wood trim. He said, 'It's like you're telling a thief exactly where to cut.' I used to just run the line the fastest way, but now I take an extra ten minutes to match paint or tuck it behind molding. It's a small thing, but it makes the whole install look cleaner and less of a target. How do you guys handle hiding wires in tricky spots with older homes?

Can we talk about the old movie rental place in Northridge that's now a thrift store?

I was driving through Northridge last weekend and saw the old Blockbuster building got turned into a Goodwill. I mean, I knew it closed years ago, but walking in and seeing the shelves where the new releases used to be now full of used clothes was something else. The carpet still has those worn paths where people lined up, and the drop box slot is just a hole in the wall now. I found a VHS copy of 'The Goonies' in a bin near the front, which felt weirdly perfect. It made me think about how I used to find movies just by walking the aisles for an hour, not from some app telling me what to watch. I miss that kind of random find. Has anyone else stumbled into an old spot like that and found something cool from before everything was online?
