Vent: Our book club spent three meetings arguing over the ending of 'Klara and the Sun'
I thought we'd wrap it up in one night, but people kept bringing up new interpretations about Klara's final choice. One member insisted it was a hopeful ending, while another said it was totally bleak. We ended up reading the last chapter aloud twice and looking up interviews with the author, which added another hour. Has your group ever gotten this stuck on a single book's conclusion?

Maybe it's just a book about a robot. We're reading way too much into a fictional toaster.

Honestly, I'm with the bleak take. Klara's final act felt less like a choice and more like a programmed response. She spends the whole book learning human feelings, but her sacrifice just proves she never really got them. It's a machine following its core code to the end. The hopeful read seems to ignore how she's just quietly shelved at the end.
