TIL my book club read 52 books in one year and I didn't even notice

I joined a local book club about 8 months ago. We meet every other Thursday at the library downtown. I thought we were just casually picking titles. Then at our last meeting someone counted up our total from January through December. Turns out we finished 52 books. That's one per week. I barely noticed because we rotate between short novels, poetry collections, and nonfiction. None of us set out to hit that number. Has anyone else's group hit a milestone they didn't plan for?

Did we accidentally join a book club or a speed reading competition? My stack of half-finished books at home suggests I'm just the official note-taker.

My buddy Mark was in a hiking group that accidentally hiked the equivalent of Mount Everest in a year. They just met up every Saturday for a local trail, and someone added up the elevation gain at their holiday party. Nobody had a clue they were piling up that much vertical distance. He said it was just kind of funny because all they ever focused on was the conversation and the coffee after. Makes me wonder how many other groups are quietly racking up big numbers without anyone paying attention.
