Our club argued for an hour about whether the main character in 'Klara and the Sun' had real feelings.

I suggested we all re-read just the first three chapters, focusing on the solar power descriptions. It actually settled the debate by showing how her logic was built. Has your group ever used a specific reading trick like that?

Honestly focusing on solar power just proves she's a machine. The sun is literally her battery, not some spiritual thing. Her "logic" is just fancy programming for energy conservation. My book club tried a similar trick with a different character and it totally backfired, making the whole debate more confusing.

Used to think she was just a machine too, but those chapters showed me how her feelings grew from that logic. What book made your club's trick backfire?
