Our club almost split over the ending of The Overstory, and it started with one sentence from Dana
Last Tuesday our book club met at my place in Sacramento and what should've been a fun chat about The Overstory turned into 90 minutes of arguing. Dana said the last chapter made the whole book feel pointless, and Greg actually closed his copy and set it on the floor like he was done with all of us. We had 9 people there and by 9:30 we were split right down the middle, 4 against 5, no joke. I refilled my coffee twice just to avoid picking a side. Here's the thing, the fight was never about the book, it was about what we each wanted the ending to do for us. Has anyone else had a club night get that heated, and did you do anything to cool it down after?
Greg setting his book on the floor like it personally insulted his mom is sending me. Honestly a 4-5 split over a novel is just a normal Tuesday in book club world. Maybe next time pick something with a happy ending so nobody rage quits.
