Our book club's 'The Great Gatsby' debate got way too heated last Tuesday

We were at Karen's house in Denver, and the argument about whether Gatsby was a hopeless romantic or just a creepy stalker got so loud her neighbor called the police for a 'disturbance'. My friend's apartment in Chicago had thin walls, so our debate about whether Holden Caulfield was a whiny teen or a tragic figure led to a noise complaint from downstairs. The building manager showed up holding a copy of Catcher in the Rye he'd pulled from the dumpster, which just made us argue more.
