Just realized I was skimming the wrong chapters for years

Caught myself speed-reading character descriptions in book 3 of a series until a friend pointed out I missed the whole foreshadowing plot twist in chapter 2 - has anyone else been told they read too fast for their own good?

You said "doubt it's that deep honestly" and I gotta push back a little there. In my experience, authors hide a ton of stuff in those slower sections that seem like fluff at first glance. I used to skip past weather descriptions and little character mannerisms all the time, then wonder why I was confused later on. Your mileage may vary of course, but the payoff for slowing down even a tiny bit has been pretty huge for me personally.

Doubt it's that deep honestly. Plenty of people skim stuff and still get the gist.
