Old timer told me to use a soapstone instead of a marker on stainless
Guy named Dave with 30 years in said I'd regret using a Sharpie. I didn't listen. Spent 2 hours grinding off burnt marker lines on a 400 gallon tank in Gary. Should've just spent the $8 on soapstone. Has anyone else had a welder call you out for marker ghosting?

You ever try acetone on those ghost lines? I had the same issue on a brewery job in Milwaukee, used a magic eraser with some acetone and it lifted the marker residue way faster than grinding. The soapstone is definitely the better call for stainless though. I switched over after that job and never looked back. Saves you from marring the surface too, which is a headache with customers who inspect every inch.

I actually brought a magic eraser to a job once and accidentally scrubbed some clear coat off a customer's tank instead. ...we don't talk about that job anymore.
