Tried to teach my dad Ticket to Ride, he thought the trains were for building a wall.

We were at my place last Sunday, just me, him, and the board. I set up the USA map. He's looking at the plastic trains and goes, 'So, the goal is to connect your cities and block the other guy, right? Build a big wall across the country.' I had to explain three times that no, you're making routes, not barriers. He spent the whole game trying to cut me off from Seattle to Miami, muttering about 'strategic borders.' Has anyone else had a family member completely misinterpret a game's core idea in a hilarious way?

My uncle thought Monopoly was a property tax protest.

That is a CLASSIC dad move right there. Honestly, the idea of using trains to build a wall is kind of brilliant in its own weird way. It reminds me of what @annaw76 said about her uncle and Monopoly, like some people just see a totally different game. Your dad was probably one turn away from making you pay for the wall too. At least he was into it, even if his whole strategy was based on a beautiful misunderstanding.
