That old game store near me closed after 22 years
I walked past the Board Game Emporium on 3rd Street last week and saw the sign was gone, place got replaced by a vape shop. Back in 2005 I used to go there every Saturday to grab obscure Euro games like Caylus and Puerto Rico before they hit big. Does anyone else miss having a local spot where the owner knew your name and what you liked to play?

Wait, wait, a vape shop? After 22 years that place gets turned into a vape shop that's just depressing. I remember driving 45 minutes out of my way to get to that spot back when I was really into Carcassonne and Ticket to Ride before they were everywhere. The owner had this big beard and always had a different obscure game set up on one of the back tables to try out. It just feels like we're losing all these little places where people actually cared about the stuff they sold.

Oh man, I gotta disagree with you a little bit here. Yeah it sucks that a cool local spot closes, but I actually think vape shops can have that same kind of community feel if the owner gives a damn. The one near me has a guy who remembers everyone's favorite flavors and will chat your ear off about coil builds and battery safety for half an hour. I get being nostalgic for the board game place, but times change and new hobbies pop up. Plus maybe the owner just wanted to retire after 22 years, that doesn't mean nobody cares about what they sell.
