Dropped $120 on an oversized board game insert that didn't fit

I backed a Kickstarter for a fancy wooden insert for Terraforming Mars because I was tired of baggies. It looked perfect in the photos, but when it arrived last week, the card slots were too narrow and the player boards wouldn't sit flat. By the time I realized it wasn't workable, the refund window had closed. Has anyone else here wasted money on board game accessories that looked great online but flopped in real life?

Tape measure is your friend. I learned that the hard way with a Broken Token organizer for Scythe. The listing said it fit, but my sleeves added like 2mm to each card. Total jam situation. Now I always check the exact dimensions against what I actually own. Also worth asking in the Kickstarter comments before backing. That saved me from a similar disaster on the Everdell collector's box.

You know, @wyatta30, I used to just trust the product descriptions and hope for the best, but your point about the tape measure really opened my eyes. Now I measure everything too before I buy, saves a lot of headaches.
