Visited a shop in Portland that banned disc brake work on carbon forks
Walked into this tiny repair co-op in SE Portland last week and they had a sign saying no disc brake installs on carbon forks, period. I get the liability angle but is that actually a common policy or just one shop being overly cautious?

Ran into the same thing at a shop in Seattle a couple years back. They pointed me to a thread online about carbon steerer tubes cracking under the clamping force from disc calipers. Ended up switching to a steel fork on my tourer and never looked back, but I can see why some shops draw a hard line on this. It might just be that one shop being cautious, but I think it's becoming more common as people learn about the failures.
