TIL a cone wrench beats a regular one every time on old hubs
Last week I had a 1990s Shimano rear hub on the bench and my 15mm cone wrench was too fat to fit the locknut, so I tried a thin auto wrench from my toolbox. It slipped and chewed the flat a little, and I had to file it smooth again. I ended up ordering a proper 13mm cone wrench for $18 and it spun off in 10 seconds. I know this sounds basic but I've been turning wrenches for 6 years and never hit that fit problem before. What do you all keep on hand for skinny locknuts on older stuff?
