Unpopular opinion: skipping the pre-shave oil isn't that bad
I had a guy come in about 2 months ago complaining his skin always got irritated after a shave. He said his last barber swore by pre-shave oil and he bought the expensive stuff. I told him to try ditching it and just using hot water and a good cream instead. He came back a week later saying his razor burn was almost gone. Now I don't even offer the oil to most clients unless they ask for it. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Totally agree with "people overthink this whole routine way too much." It's not just shaving either - I see this with skincare, coffee, even keeping houseplants alive lol. Everyone's trying to sell you some 12 step routine when half the time the basics work fine. Like my buddy spent a hundred bucks on some fancy beard oil kit and his face was still itchy. He just needed to wash his beard with regular shampoo more often lmao. It's like we're all scared that simple = wrong.
