Heard a guy at the barber supply store say fades are dead

Was grabbing some new shears yesterday and overheard a dude telling the clerk that skin fades are on their way out. Said it's all about longer textured cuts now and that we're all wasting our time practicing bald lines. I get that trends shift but calling fades dead felt like a hot take. Spent my whole Sunday watching tutorials on scissor-over-comb work just in case he's right. Anyone else hearing this from clients or is this guy just trying to sell his own class?

You said the younger guys are still all about that crisp skin fade, so does that mean you're seeing a split based on age? Like, are the clients asking for more natural grown-out stuff mostly guys in their 30s and up, or is it across the board?

And like, I feel you on this. Honestly, that guy sounds like he's trying to sell a specific look or maybe his own class, because trends don't just drop dead overnight like that. I've had a few clients mention they want something less "sharp" lately, more natural and grown out, but my younger guys are still all about that crisp skin fade. It's probably just a shift in what's popular, not a full funeral for the fade. Like, scissor work is great to have in your pocket no matter what, so at least you're not wasting your time.
