Back when I started, a proper barber chair felt like a huge expense

Dropped nearly $3000 on a refurbished Belmont about fifteen years ago. It's the one piece in the shop that's never let me down, and my back thanks me every day. Anyone still running on those old, basic hydraulic chairs?

Bet that chair's paid for itself ten times over by now.

Man, that reminds me of my first shop's ancient chair. It was so shot, I had to keep a phone book on the seat to reach a decent height. You really don't know how bad it is until you finally upgrade to something solid.
