Can we talk about that $45 digital thermometer I bought off Amazon?
Honestly, I thought I was being smart skipping the expensive Thermapen and grabbing a random one for 45 bucks. Worked fine for three months, then last Sunday it read my sourdough as 210 when it was actually 170 inside. Ended up with a gummy, underbaked loaf that took 8 hours to prove. Anyone else get burned by cheap gear or am I the only one who learned this the hard way?

Wait, it read 210 when it was actually 170? That's a 40 degree swing, that's not even close to accurate. Cheap gear is one thing but that thing was straight up lying to you. Glad it wasn't just me who wasted a whole day on a loaf that came out like concrete.

@jade47 I gotta disagree a little. Sure that 40 degree swing is bad, but cheap oven thermometers are just garbage most of the time. You get what you pay for.
