Found a map of my town from 1987 that shows a highway that doesn't exist

I was digging through some old boxes my dad left me and found this county planning map from 1987. It shows this big 4-lane highway cutting right through the middle of our neighborhood, connecting two towns that are 5 miles apart. Problem is, the highway was never built, and the map labels it as 'existing' road with a solid line and everything. It's like someone just drew a fake road on a real map and called it a day. Has anyone else found a historical map that's just completely wrong about something major?

That's really wild that the map labeled it as existing with a solid line. I've seen old maps with proposed roads shown as dotted lines or in different colors, but a solid line means it was supposed to be finished and open. Makes me wonder if there was some kind of planning error or if someone just made a mistake when they drew it up. Did you check the year on the map itself? Sometimes maps get reprinted with old data that was never corrected.
