Took me 4 trips to realize I was planning my water around campsites instead of the other way around
Last month on the Eagle Rock loop in Arkansas I ran dry for 6 miles because I picked my camp spot first and then just hoped there would be water near it. My buddy Dave finally asked why I always do it backwards. I had never thought about it. Now I highlight every creek and spring on the map first, then drop pins for camp. Cut my pack weight by almost 3 lbs too since I only carry 1.5 liters at a time now. Anyone else plan water first? Or am I the only one who was doing this dumb?
