The John Muir Trail is way too crowded now, it's not the same

I hiked it in 2015 and again last month, and the difference is huge. The main campsites near Evolution Lake were packed with over a dozen tents each night, which just wasn't the case before. Has anyone else found a quieter long trail in the Sierras that still feels remote?

Sounds like you need a permit just to breathe up there now.
