Hot take: My $60 satellite communicator was a total waste for the Lost Coast Trail
Had zero signal the whole trip and the battery died faster than my phone's... what's a better backup for that area?

Which model was it though... some of those budget ones have pretty weak antennas. I'm wondering if you just got stuck with a bad spot in the canyons there.

Wasn't there a whole thing about the early models having that exact issue? I swear I saw a thread about it dropping signal near big buildings.

Yeah I used to think the "bad spot" thing was just an excuse too lol. But my buddy's high end model dropped calls in the same spot so maybe it's just a dead zone.
