Blew $60 on a boot dryer that barely works on the trail

Blew $60 on a boot dryer that barely works on the trail. Picked up a cheap boot dryer at a gas station in Moab last month before a 4 day hike in Canyonlands. Figured it would dry my soaked boots overnight but after 8 hours they were still damp. Next morning my feet were blistered by mile 3 because of the moisture. Has anyone found a reliable way to dry boots fast when you're camping without a fire?

60 bucks at a gas station is your first mistake, those things are just glorified fans with heater coils. I've been using a technique with my old hiking boots where I stuff them with dry, crumpled newspaper as soon as I take them off, then swap it out for fresh paper after a couple hours. Takes maybe 4-5 hours total and they're bone dry by morning, way better than plugging anything into a car battery.

Haha yeah well I bought one of those gas station dryers last winter and it melted the glue on my boot sole, so I guess we all learn the hard way! Your newspaper trick is way smarter than my "try to dry them on a space heater and set the kitchen on fire" method. Next time I'll just stuff my boots with old sports sections and save myself the embarrassment.
