Almost got stuck on the High Sierra Trail last July because I trusted Apple Maps
I used to just pull up whatever map app was on my phone and head out. Last July on the High Sierra Trail near Whitney, my phone said there was a stream crossing 0.6 miles ahead that turned out to be a dry, steep ravine with no water at all. I had to backtrack 2.4 miles in the heat because I didn't bring a paper topo map or a GPS with downloaded offline tiles. Now I always carry a paper map from REI and use Gaia GPS on airplane mode. Has anyone else had a phone map mess up a water source like that on a popular route?

Nope... learned that lesson the hard way too. Paper maps don't lie though.
